2012 Cascade Gran Fondo Results

Sunday, August 5, 2012 - 9:57pm

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our event today!  We had a fantastic day of riding, with enthusiastic participants, great volunteers and generous sponsors on hand for our ride around the Cascade Mountains.  Full overall results are listed below, and results divided by age group will be posted later in the week....

Tour Stage 16 and 17

Friday, July 20, 2012 - 10:02am
Lots of mountains. One day boiling hot, the other day damp and foggy. Otherwise, it was a lot of miles of suffering! The team wanted me to do what I could at the finish to protect our team GC lead, so it was full gas (or as close to that as I could get) to the line both days for me. Stage 16 was so long and hot that it took pretty much everything I had to hold on to the group over the final climb and through the dash to the finish. Then we got up on Thursday and did it all over again for Stage 17!

Tour Stage 15

Tuesday, July 17, 2012 - 11:10am

Never got around to getting yesterday's file up, so here it is - a little late, but better than never!  Yesterday felt harder than it should have.  We spent the first 1.5 hrs going full gas as attack after attack went.  Finally, a group got away that everyone was more or less satisifed with, and things slowed down.  But the slower pace actually ended up hurting more, since every time we hit a climb, it felt like an all out sprint.  After an easy pace, the huge change in effort HURT!...

Tour Stage 14

Sunday, July 15, 2012 - 2:58pm

Made it back to the mountains.  Spent the first half of the day covering attacks with Jens and Popo, until the break was established.  Then it was business as usual until we hit the top of the final climb of the day.  At that point, someone had thrown tacks on the road, causing a huge number of flats in the front group as well as with those behind.  First to stop was Cadel, with a few others getting flats shortly after.  While Cadel was behind, waiting for a wheel, Sky stopped riding the front to give him a chance to come back....

Tour Stage 13

Saturday, July 14, 2012 - 1:48pm

Another dicey day at the Tour.  Crazy crosswinds on the second half split the group.  We had most of the team ahead of the split, working to protect Haimar and Frank.  Stayed up front on the final climb - wasn't sure what the descent looked like, but it wasn't too bad.  A pretty small group made it to the finish, but we had five in the front group, staying out of trouble for another day.  Sad to lose Tony Gallopin today - he has been sick for days and just couldn't go any more after the last few hard days....
